EV Roadworthy Testing

Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Roadworthy Inspections under VicRoads’ New EV LVT Category

With the rise of electric and hybrid vehicles on Victorian roads, VicRoads is introducing a new Electric Vehicle Light Vehicle Testing (EV LVT) category to ensure these vehicles are inspected by qualified personnel with specialist knowledge. At NexDrive Australia, we are proud that our members are qualified to conduct roadworthy inspections on electric and hybrid vehicles under this new category.

What Does the New EV LVT Category Mean?

VicRoads’ EV LVT category applies to all vehicles with electrical drive systems rated at 60 Volts DC or higher, including most hybrid and electric vehicles. This category requires examining mechanics to hold specific accreditation and for testing sites to be authorised to safely and accurately assess high-voltage electrical systems.

Mild hybrids, operating below this voltage threshold, will continue being tested under the standard Light Vehicle (LV) LVT category and do not require EV-specific accreditation.

NexDrive Members: Ready for EV Roadworthy Testing

NexDrive Australia members have already completed the necessary prerequisite training modules that VicRoads requires for this new category, including:

  • AURETH101: Depower and reinitialise battery electric vehicles
  • AURETH011: Depower and reinitialise hybrid electric vehicles

Building on this foundation, NexDrive members will undertake the EV LVT accreditation training when made available via VicRoads to become authorised examining mechanics for electric and hybrid vehicles.

Until such time that th eEV LVT category is fully implemented, our sites are fully authorised and equipped to conduct thorough, safe, and compliant inspections on EV and hybrid vehicles, ensuring peace of mind for our customers and compliance with VicRoads regulations.
